Cleaning and pressing can make a significant difference in the appearance and potential grade of a comic — but only when the right defects are present.
At Inherited Comics, we evaluate each book individually before recommending cleaning or pressing. Our goal isn't simply to make a comic look better. It's to determine whether improving its condition could increase its value enough to justify the cost of the work and, when appropriate, professional grading.
Cleaning can carefully reduce certain surface dirt, residue and other removable contaminants.
Pressing uses controlled pressure and temperature to improve non-color-breaking defects such as bends, rippling, waviness, dents and some creases.
What pressing cannot do is restore missing paper, repair tears, remove color breaking creases or replace damaged ink. Knowing the difference is important and it's one of the reasons we inspect comics before recommending the service.
